To make Liquid Laundry Soap:
What you will need
Olive or Castile soap
2 litres distilled water
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda crystals
2 tbsp Xanthan gum
Essential oils for fragrance
What to do:
Grate one quarter of Olive or Castile soap with a cheese grater.
Melt the grated soap in a pan with 2 litres of distilled water and gradually heat, stirring constantly until the soap is completely dissolved.
Stir in 1 cup of borax and 1 cup of washing soda crystals until completely dissolved or if you do not have these I have on occasion mixed in 5 tbsp of grated soap nut powder. Take off the heat allow to cool for 5 minutes.
Pour into a blender and add 2 tbsp of xantham gum. Add more or less xantham gum to achieve the desired thick ‘gloopy like’ consistency.
Add essential oils. I tend to use either a carrier such as jojoba oil or alcohol depending on what the mixture is to hold the fragrance. In this recipe I use ylang ylang and lavender to an alcohol mix).
Whizz once more in the blender, checking you have the desired smell and appearance and decant into an airtight large container.
Use ½ to 1 cup per load.
If you want this to be a whitening laundry liquid I suggest first infusing your water with lemons and adding 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide.
If you do not want to make this I recommend using My Joni Green Goddess Laundry Liquid available to purchase in the shop section of this site.
