Cream Base Recipe:
This is a simple base cream that can be used to carry essential oils and herbal tinctures for external application. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. The recipe below will make approximately 100 g /3.5 oz.
You can add vitamin E to try to preserve the life of the cream as well as natural preservatives that may give a longer shelf life.
What you will need:
8 g/2 tsp beeswax (granules or grated)
10 g/2½ tsp cocoa butter
30 ml/2 tbsp almond oil
15 ml/1 tbsp wheatgerm oil
45 ml/3 tbsp of spring or distilled water
5 g/1¼ tsp of emulsifying wax
Dark glass container.
What to do:
Heat the beeswax, cocoa butter and base oils together in a glass bowl over a saucepan of water (bain-marie) until the ingredients are liquid.
Warm the spring or distilled water in another pan and dissolve the emulsifying wax into it.
Take the oil mixture off the heat, slowly add the water mixture to the oil solution and stir until cool. You may add essential oils or herbal tincture as it is cooling.
Decant into a dark glass jar or container and keep in the fridge.
